Modelling: Custom Arch Light

My workspace was a little under-lit, so I came up with this solution for better all round illumination that was tailored for the space.

MODELLING3D PRINTED

After deciding that an Arch Light was what I needed; I looked at what was currently available, both on the market and DIY projects shared online. It became clear that nothing was quite suitable and I would need to create my own custom solution. I wanted to make best use of the available space and not encroach on my cutting mat, but also not block the storage drawers and avoid the lamps already mounted to the desk.

I studied the DIY arch light designs available online to get a better idea of the features I did and didn't want. Something that was missing from most of them was any heatsinking behind the LEDs or provision for a diffuser, so I wanted to include that.
Also most lights were designed to be clamped at the two bases, but since I couldn't really do that I had to make it free standing and adjustable to remove any possible sagging that may occur to the structure over time.

As the design progressed I went from having two aluminium LED channels to three, as it made more sense with the sandwiched construction I was going for.

Most of it is 3D Printed, out of PETG for the grey and PLA for the white parts.
The 17mm aluminium U channel is from ebay and was cut into 200mm lengths, plus the sides cut every 50mm, so the sections could be bent into a slight curve. All the fixings came from Aliexpress.

I decided to add some addressable RGB LEDs into the centre channel, as I thought that might help create some more visually interesting photo shoots.
Pretty happy with how this came out.

If you are interested in this design then please let me know and I can make it available on Cults and/or Thingiverse. However, like a lot of the things I make; it was designed around the stuff I had to hand, rather than being a practical build for others, so most people would probably need to redesign elements of it.
At least it can be another source of inspiration, like many of the other arch lights were to me.
